DAY ONE:
After your
arrival at the international airport in San Jose, Costa Rica's capital you
will have a private transfer to your hotel.
DAY TWO:
You
transfer to the scenic Turrialba region, a two-hour drive through
picturesque mountain villages with a stop at
Irazu volcano. You
will walk just a few feet and look into the crater of this active volcano.
Then your naturalist guide
will lead you on a hike through the rainforest of
Guayabo National Monument, Costa
Rica's most important pre-Columbian site which dates back to 500 B.C. Although
not of the scale of the Maya and Aztec ruins, Guayabo gives us an insight into
the civilization that mysteriously disappeared in the 15th Century.
Systematic excavations made over the last 35 years have only uncovered 15% of
the village. In late afternoon you will arrive at the Guayabo Lodge where
you will enjoy dinner and fine mountain air and vistas.
DAY
THREE: Today you will
experience a working hacienda as you tour the beautiful
Tayutic Hacienda of
the Ortuño Family. You will learn how sugarcane, coffee and macadamia nuts
are grown and processed. On the farm you
can see a little church built in the beginning of the 20th
Century, beautiful gardens, and some of the most spectacular scenery in
the country. Afterwards, you leave the highlands for the
lush beauty of the Caribbean coast and your beachfront hotel.
DAY FOUR:
FREE DAY at your
beach resort to enjoy the ocean, only feet from your room,
the
swimming pool and jacuzzi, and the tennis
courts. You can participate in optional
activities
at an additional fee, including:
1) Canopy Tour on a
zipline through the Gandoca-Manzanillo National Park;
2)
Avarios del Caribe Refuge
3)
Guided walk with a BriBri indian guide in the
rainforest to Natura Park to learn about
BriBri life in the
sparsely populated Talamanca Mountains;
4) Kayaking and snorkeling at Punta Uva or Manzanillo beaches;
5) Horseback Riding;
6) Green Iguana
Project and Kekoldi Indian Reserve;
7) Biking Tour through the Caribbean Coast.
8) Tours of Cahuita and Puerto
Vargas National Park or Gandoca Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge;
9) Puerto Viejo with shops, restaurants and
clubs (about 15 minutes by taxi)
DAY FIVE:
FREE DAY at your beach resort
DAY SIX: Private
transfer to San Jose with stop for lunch and shopping in
Moravia, a town near San Jose known for Costa Rican crafts. In the
evening you will tour Pueblo Antiguo, a recreated San Jose of 1900.
There you will have a typical Costa Rican dinner and see a folk
dance show.
DAY SEVEN:
Transfer to the airport for your departure
to the United States
COST:
$1495

"We
had a wonderful trip to Costa Rica in June of 2008. We expected beautiful
scenery and we were not disappointed by what we saw over our 10 day stay.
The guides we had were warm and friendly. We were most impressed with their
enthusiasm for Costa Rica's riches ... and they truly showed us the best of
Costa Rica. Thank you Costa Rica Tours, Ltd for making all the
arrangements."
