where you can walk to the rim of this active volcano and
look into its one-quarter mile wide crater, the largest in the world.
You continue on to La Paz Waterfall Gardens where your naturalist guide
will lead a hike in the rainforest to five awesome waterfalls.
You also see their butterfly garden and aviary.
Afterwards, you continue north to the Sarapiqui Lowlands, near
the border of Nicaragua. In
the evening,
you can take an optional Bat Tour in Tirimbina Reserve.
Day 3: Today
is for sports adventures at
Hacienda Pozo Azul. You have a choice of two activities:
whitewater rafting, horseback riding, Canopy/zipline, mountain
biking, , or rappeling.
Day 4: In the morning,
you have a private transfer across the San Carlos Lowlands to
Arenal. You will
stop in the town of La Fortuna to catch glimpses of small town life
and have lunch. In the afternoon you relax at Tabacon Hot
Springs & Spa. Enjoy the many thermal pools heated by
Arenal Volcano, and optional spa treatments. In the
evening, you have a buffet dinner and perhaps will see lava
flowing down the volcano.
Day 5: Ready for more
sports? In the morning choose one activity: canopy/zipline,
a horsesback ride to La Fortuna
Waterfall, rappeling, or guided rainforest walk
at Arenal Hanging Bridges. This environmentally sensitive complex of
trails and suspension bridges brings you as close as you ever could hope to get to the birds, the flowers and the lush
vegetation of the primary rainforest. From the bridges along the
trail you can look down at the streams and rainforest canopy below
and enjoy the view of Arenal Volcano. You have the afternoon free to further explore Arenal or
just relax at your hotel pool and spa.
Day 6: Today you
return to San Jose with a stop in Sarchi, the crafts
capital of Costa Rica. You can buy wood and leather
goods, jewelry, painted carts and leather rockers that can be
boxed to take with you on the plane. In the evening
enjoy a typical Costa Rican dinner and folk dance show at a
restaurant with a magnificent view of the Central Valley below.
