Student Adventure in Costa Rica

As specialists in Costa Rica for 12 years and pioneers in Sustainable Tourism in the eastern regions of the country, Costa Rica Tours, Ltd. is uniquely able to provide your students with an educational program that combines both authentic cultural, nature and scientific exploration. Your students will also have the opportunity to work side by side with local leaders in projects that benefit the community and with international scientists at the world-renowned tropical agriculture center in projects that protect Costa Rica’s unique ecosystems.

This tour is designed for student groups and can be arranged throughout the year on dates preferred by your program.

Cultural Exploration:

• Basilica de Los Angeles in Cartago
• Guayabo National Monument (3,000 year old archaeological ruins of an indigenous civilization)
• Community Service Project with a local town and elementary school
• Lessons in making tortillas, chocolate, and a typical Costa Rican meal
• Tour a Traditional Farm producing macadamia nuts, sugar cane and coffee
• Folk Dances performed by school children
• Visit a local indigenous community

Nature Education:

• Tour CATIE Gardens (Center for Tropical Agriculture Research and Higher Education)
• Participate in Bird Monitoring Program with CATIE scientists
• Assist in Reforestation Project (community service)
• Guided rain forest hikes
• Nature Exhibits and Night Specimen Collections with biologist at Veragua Rainforest Research and Adventure Park
• Heliconias del Caribe tropical flower farm and exporter

Recreational Activities:

• Canopy Tour on a Zipline at Veragua Park
• Tram Ride in the rainforest
• Craft Shopping in Moravia

We have worked with many educational institutions, including, WTVI Educational TV, The Charlotte World Affairs Council, Kent State University, Iowa State University, The Art Institute of Dallas, The Art Institute of Houston, Charlotte Country Day School and Countryside Montessori High School.
