Student Adventure in Costa Rica

Your students will also have the opportunity to work side by side with local leaders in projects that benefit the community and with international scientists at the world-renowned tropical agriculture center in projects that protect Costa Rica’s unique ecosystems.

This tour is designed for student groups and can be arranged throughout the year on dates preferred by your program.

Cultural Exploration:

  • Basilica de Los Angeles in Cartago
  • Guayabo National Monument (3,000 year old archaeological ruins of an indigenous civilization)
  • Community Service Project with a local town and elementary school
  • Lessons in making tortillas, chocolate, and a typical Costa Rican meal
  • Tour a Traditional Farm producing macadamia nuts, sugar cane and coffee
  • Folk Dances performed by school children
  • Visit a local indigenous community

Nature Education:

  • Tour CATIE Gardens (Center for Tropical Agriculture Research and Higher Education)
  • Participate in Bird Monitoring Program with CATIE scientists
  • Assist in Reforestation Project (community service)
  • Guided rain forest hikes
  • Nature Exhibits and Night Specimen Collections with biologist at Veragua Rainforest Research and Adventure Park
